Tiny Advertising

14 Oct 2006

These ads for the Minature/Model-Makers Fair in Vienna reminded me a lot of the British art project ‘Little People’. Nevertheless, the execution is very cute and attractive and certainly an eye-catcher for those who are confronted with it. Given the tininess of the project, I wonder if the little puppets were attached to the surface they were placed on, because I think a lot of people would just take it home and the larger part of the target audience wouldn’t have had the chance to be exposed to the message in this form. Obviously posters and billboards would cover this, but still… it’s the idea that counts.

Bravia Buzz Machine

14 Oct 2006

The promo team for Sony Bravia sent out an e-mail, announcing the launch of the teaser for the commercial. This must be the most anticipated commercial on the web by now. Buried deep in post production for weeks, Sony BRAVIA’s new Paint advert is about to emerge next week for its first airing. As promised, bloggers can have a sneak – behind the scenes – peek, and I downloaded the clip and uploaded it to Yahoo! Video, since the Google clips all of the sudden started messing up my design.
The actual advert will get its first airing on site early morning on Tuesday the 17th with its TV launch at 8.45pm GMT. Enjoy the teaser :)

There’s also a new batch of pictures that have been uploaded to their gallery, so check those out as well.

Bravia, Color Like No Other

Thanks, Kate

Faded T-Shirts

14 Oct 2006

From the Golden Drum shortlist are these ads for a washing detergent from Procter & Gamble. This is a keen way to illustrate the effect of washing your favorite t-shirt far too often with no color-protection. As much as I like the images and admire the creative output, what I’m missing here is a decent product placement. A missed opportunity for the brand to promote the product it actually wants to promote. A small logo in the corner of the images would’ve been enough. Now I’m stuck with some nice ads of which I don’t even know what product they represent. I’m guessing Ariel or something like that.

Changing Shirts

13 Oct 2006

From the Duval Guillaume agency in Antwerp comes this piece of dreamy video for Ché Magazine in which female tennis players exchange shirts at the end of the game, just like soccer players do when the match is finished. This clip is part of the “Let’s Keep Dreaming of A Better World” campaign. There’s not much more to add. I don’t think it’s really good, it’s just ‘typically’ and ’somewhat funny’, but hey – it must be me.

Here’s the link to the changing shirts video.

Dentist Tea Bon

13 Oct 2006

I’ve seen this concept before for Theramed (check this post). The idea is pretty simple: you take a poster, put a face on it, stretch the face, cut out the mouth and place the poster on a wall. Where the mouth used to be, you’ll see the print of the stones of the wall the poster is placed on to market a dental product or service. Not a prize-winning entry, and probably the last of these I’ll write about. But I just had to add it to the archive to have two examples of the technique. Didn’t make it beyond the Golden Drum shortlist, obviously.

Three Lives, Three Deaths

13 Oct 2006

Heheh, this ad for PlayStation 2 says so many things… in most games you play you get three lives, which also means you have three deaths coming up, and they’ll be waiting just around the corner, ready to surprize you when you least expect it. Horrific, cruel and yet appealing. Typically something for PlayStation. It didn’t receive an award, but it got shortlisted at the Golden Drum Awards. Good enough for that extra bit of attention this ad deserves. Notice the cup of coffee on the table, it’s one of those fine details that make the ad so great. They’ll wait patiently for you to screw up your game. :)

Nasty Suicide

13 Oct 2006

This anti-smoking campaign caught my attention while scrolling the list of Bronze winners at the Golden Drum Awards. You have to look twice before you actually see it (at least I had to). The rope from the gallows is made out of ashes and cigarette butts and indicates the slow suicide a smoker gets himself into. Creepy but effective. Not quite the sight you want to be enjoying while you’re waiting for the bus.
