Sony Bravia Spoof

12 May 2006

This one is the best I’ve seen up until now. They spoofed that original Sony Bravia Ad, with all the coloured balls, and switched them with all kinds of fruit to turn it into a commercial for Tango. Absolutely brilliant.

Tango/Bravia Spoof

You can find the QuickTime version at the Swansea North Residents Association. Swansea is a region in the western part of the UK. If you don’t like QuickTime, you can download other versions here.

Update: Aha. Looks like I missed this at AdRants, so now I know where Ben (who sent it to me) got it :) Thanks for the pointer Robin

Although you must admit it’s pretty lame of the agency behind it to try and gain more publicity about it by putting up a fake website from so-called protesters.

You can read more about it on AdRants

Hm. I don’t think it’s lame. As long as it works, why not? Things get copied all the time. I think it’s a good clip. It’s a funny take on the original especially when the fruit goes through the window. Really. And yeah, fake websites are being launched all the time, like that one with the yellow gnomes, to name a recent example – which turned out to be for a mobile comunication company. There’s nothing wrong with it. If you can gain momentum, you should go for it. That’s my two cents.

The clip’s great, no doubt about it.

But do they have to make these ‘fake’ website so obviously un-fake by not covering it up enough? In my opinion, it’s BECAUSE these sites keep on popping up more and more, that the creators should really make an effort out of keeping it from going public as long as possible. Builds up the buzz.

True. But if you cover it up very good, then they’ll throw that in your face as well, because you hid it that long or that good. Stealth marketing is good, but going in to deep is most likely going to cost you your head for being phony. Creativity is one thing, misleading another. I think this is a good mix. You discovered the ’scam’ with the yellow gnomes because you did a look-up for the domain name and recognized the name of a member of the agency in Luxembourgh that said it up. What’s the difference? Why this fuzz about this campaign if you didn’t make the fuzz back then?

    Good question.
The yellow gnomes website was well-covered, because I only ‘discovered’ which agency created it, not who the client was.

They were doing a campaign for their client, Tele2, not for themselves (which I think is the case with the agency who made the Bravia ad spoof).

Anyway, let’s just stick with the fact that it’s a brilliant spoof :)

This one’s a good one too: Braveheart spoof for WrestleMania goes Hollywood (“lightning from my arse”)

It fun and simple and hits the ‘You’ve Been Tangoed’ on the mark like a lot of the other Tango work.

Cool. I like the original even better. Can I buy that song on iTunes? Who’s singing?
