New Ford Ranger

11 Jul 2006

Aah. Headlights. The bright cones of your nightly journeys, bakens of the visible world and spotters of roadkill-to-be instants before you hit it. But enough for the romance. These two ads for Ford’s new Ranger grabbed my attention because of the simplicity of the concept and the visual effect they created whilst doing so. I didn’t see this before and I like what I’m seeing. Nice work from the Belgian Ogilvy branch. The ads below are titled “Sunset” and “Moonlight”. The Copy reads: “New Ranger XLT, Coming Soon”.

Father’s Day

11 Jul 2006

Hmm. I’ve seen this concept before. I even blogged about it. Somebody parked in the ‘me too avenue’, but with quite a good angle though, because it’s not really for a miniature town this time, but for a dad’s fashion and the junior’s, and the miniature billboards aren’t really thát miniature. Clever move from DDB for C&A, the clothing store. Belgian creativity. Delicious. Just like our waffles.

Eastpak Horror

11 Jul 2006

A Belgian agency I hadn’t really heard that much of (shame on me) came up with some very decent and horrific images for their client ‘Eastpak’. Although the images do not represent a clear link to either the product or the target audience, one might assume that a certain state of cultness is on its place here, given the fact the Eastpak has been doing some pretty weird stuff before. In order of appearance:

1. Cracks
2. Cahos
3. Authentic
4. Breakaway
5. Resistance
6. Campus
7. Zombie Male
8. Zombie Female

Beka Luxury

11 Jul 2006

This is a pretty weird ad for a Belgian company that specializes in sleeping accomodations. Beka is pretty well-known around here and also partnered with Olivier Strelli, a contemporary designer. Strelli creates a timeless world, feminine, emotional, sensual. A world where there’s a place for desire, dreams and lots of memories of good times. Where there’s comfort and warmth. It’s a world of ‘touch and feel’, with luxurious materials and soft colors. Strong, curvy lines and pure spoiling. Beka’s stuff makes you dream. To illustrate this serenade, they used this funky image:

Nashua

10 Jul 2006

Funny ad. It seems to be quite old already and I think I’ve seen it around a few months ago. Nevertheless, I’ll post it here because I think it deserves a place in my archives. Thanks for sending it in, Ben. Anyone knows the agency? I think it’s UK based or at least from some country of the former Commonwealth, because they’ve written ‘colour’ instead of ‘color’. But I might be wrong.

Your Spine Or Mine?

10 Jul 2006

Interesting guerrilla campaign that targets reluctant, good-functioning and abled drivers who keep parking on the wrong place, making it difficult for disabled people to use what’s rightfully theirs. The strong language is actually strengthening the message. I don’t know the agency who did this, if there’s an agency behind it. It just looks too well-organized to be something consumer-generated.

Revenge

07 Jul 2006

This ad is just great. It’s so damn good it makes my brain all fuzzy and hazy. This is one of the cooler things around I’ve seen recently, it’s so strong, so simple, so obvious. In case you didn’t quite get the point yet: I totally like it. The copy says:”Seek revenge.” and it’s an ad for the seafood buffet lunches of Goa Portuguesa. It’s really clever.

Balkenende Goes Viral

07 Jul 2006

The Dutch Prime Minister Balkenende recently had a crisis in his government, which led to a reformation of the cabinet. On June 29th, D66 (the Democrats) dropped its support for the coalition. The next day, Prime Minister Balkenende offered the resignation of the cabinet to Queen Beatrix. The Queen ruled in favor of a VVD and CDA minority cabinet and the installation of the third Balkenende cabinet is expected today. This short political background is because of a viral campaign for Center Parcs, a chain of leisure and relaxation resorts, who’ve used this political situation as an angle of approach in their latest round of action. This story has been going around on MarketingFacts and Adformatie, two large media and marketing blogs in The Netherlands, and just recently a former college-buddy who’s now working for Duval Guillaume E asked me if I could mention it here as well, because it’s the first viral around that actually has a political reformation as a subject.

Center Parcs

About the clip itself: it’s not really that strong, but it’s quite funny, because a (British Prime Minister) Tony Blair look-alike is actually urging the Dutch government to put things in perspective, to get together in a sauna and sweat it out. It’s in English, so it’s open for a large audience to check it out.
