New Ford Ranger

11 Jul 2006

Aah. Headlights. The bright cones of your nightly journeys, bakens of the visible world and spotters of roadkill-to-be instants before you hit it. But enough for the romance. These two ads for Ford’s new Ranger grabbed my attention because of the simplicity of the concept and the visual effect they created whilst doing so. I didn’t see this before and I like what I’m seeing. Nice work from the Belgian Ogilvy branch. The ads below are titled “Sunset” and “Moonlight”. The Copy reads: “New Ranger XLT, Coming Soon”.

Look at that 7-years old Peugeout print:

Created by Kryn, Belarus for Peugeot 607 in 1999.

[...] There is one thing, however, pointed out in the comments of a post about some recent print ads produced by Ogilvy. Very recently Ogilvy launched a campaign for their client Ford. It turns out, as illustrated by Alexander, that the exact same concept has been used already in 1999, in the exact same context and sector (automotive), but for a different brand, namely Peugeot. Funny. I really liked the Ranger ads. But this find puts it in the shadow. Too bad. Wonder if their client knew about this blatant copycat work. [...]
