Camouflage Tent

10 Apr 2007

Bert sent me this super cool image of a camouflage tent he got from a friend. I don’t know where it’s up for sale, but I think the idea is just super! The only thing I hope is that you don’t buy it with a deer print if you go out camping in the woods or in the mountains… because if they do have it, you better not run into some hunters :)

Crap

10 Apr 2007

Sorry for the lack of posts. I had a few serious issues to deal with… and the last thing on my mind was this blog. I’ll pick up the wire where we left and I’ll start writing again. Bad things happen every once in a while. Luckily I live in a town where you can take extra long walks along the river side without meeting people so the wind can clear my thoughts.

Cheers.

Love The Country

07 Apr 2007

Arnaud sent me this very funny commercial from Lynx. I don’t know in which country it was aired but it’s been hosted on cartoonland.de, the German mega movie hoster. The clip is titled ‘Father in Law – Bom Chicka Wah Wah’. You’ll find out why if you push play. =)

Thanks, Arnaud

Urban Guerrilla: Revenge Of The Pixel

06 Apr 2007

Pixelator is an unauthorized on-going video art performance collaboration with the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority, Clear Channel Communications, and its selected artists. Since 2003, the MTA has made available for exhibition purposes 80 LED screens located at subway entrances across New York City. Unfortunately, the high cost of exhibiting (an estimated $274,000 per month per screen) prevents most artists from having access to these facilities. While the MTA’s effort to create more opportunities for video art exhibition in public spaces is to be commended, selected works remain wholly fixated on commercial goods and media conglomerate events, a short-sighted curatorial choice that regrettably ignores the full potential of these promising exhibition spaces. In an attempt to broaden the scope of MTA’s video art series, Pixelator takes video pieces currently on display and diffuses them into a pleasant array of 45 blinking, color-changing squares. Since the project is an anonymous collaboration, the resulting video is almost entirely unplanned and unanticipated, with the original artists helping to create new works of art without any knowledge of their participation.
[Translation: Pixelator turns those ugly, blinding video billboard ads into art]

Zappware Strippoker

06 Apr 2007

Zappware is the first company (in Belgium) to use a game as a ‘red-button’ application for an interactive tv case. The interactive chapter is added to VT4’s Temptation Island and it’s in fact a strip poker game to keep people on the channel instead of zapping away during commercial breaks. Last year the iDTV company from Hasselt launched a romance test where the participants could find their own personalized ‘romantic profile’ at the end of the program. This year, they opted for a game to keep the digital viewer chained to the VT4 channel. A game with the same depth and profundity as the show: strip poker. Every Monday and Thursday night around 10.15 PM, during the commercial breaks of Temptation Island, you can play strip poker for free… 8 weeks in a row. When the show’s over you can still play again through VT4’s ‘DigiText’ section. Players get 30 (fictional) Euros to start with and once they’ve reached 100 Euros, Melissa (on Mondays) and Amina (on Thursdays) will start to strip. Every time you win you get to see a picture on which the two bachelorettes from Temptation island will wear fewer and fewer clothes. Every 100 Euros the player wins, a new pic is shown.

If you think it won’t work, you can guess again. About 5% of the digital viewers already tried to play during the first episode. Not bad if you keep in mind there hasn’t been any advertising for it (yet), apart from a mention on the digital ‘interactive landing page’. Reminds me of the good old days in 1995 where you could play strip-tetris on your 386 and all that. Totally pointless but hey, sex still sells. Even through digital tv games during a commercial break.

All Night Long

06 Apr 2007

Steve ‘the man’ Hall pointed us in the general direction of this FedEx/Kinko’s outdoor thingy. This setup isn’t a rest-stop for overworked white collar people, and it’s not a demo of a new bedroom equipment of some sorts. The guy on the table isn’t drugged or drunk, although he appears to be and he’s not a mime-character either who starts to move when you drop a coin in the cup. No, really, this is just an outdoor to announce the No More Allnighters campaign which promotes the company’s Print Online service. Yeah. If I was the actor who got hired for this kind of work, I’d be pulling all nighters in the local bar just so I could really get some sleep on the job. He must really have sleepless nights if he works like that all day long and I’m also pretty convinced his back will hurt at the end of the day. A desk just isn’t that cosy to sleep on. Trust me, I’ve been there. Looks like somebody peed on the rug as well. ;-)

Ranger Matches

06 Apr 2007

While introducing it’s Limited Edition Ranger Extreme, a model with an extended cargo space that allowed for 30% more loading space, Ford decided it would be a good idea to highlight this feature. Question is, where would you reach the right audience? Research showed that many truck buyers are in blue-collar industries such as auto repair, construction and plumbing and that they tend to gather in specific after-work pubs. Opting for a medium like matchboxes could give the opportunity to both illustrate the product benefit and be useful to the target audience.

5,000 matchboxes were distributed amongst potential buyers at these pubs. On the box, Ford’s website address was printed so the curious could see what the truck looked like and book a test-drive. Over 1600 people visited the website, of wich 450 booked a test-drive. 300 finally test-drove the car. The Limited Edition Ranger extreme was sold out a month ahead of schedule.
