A Mini Desk

17 Feb 2007

Now here’s something really awesome to give that old workstation a pimped up remake: Glynn Jenkins has taken the classic British Mini and transformed it into an impressive modern piece of bespoke furniture. Hand built to you exact requirements your mini desk will be as individual as you are! It even has optional extras, just like the car:

  • Desk top choice – Leather, Wood, Metal, Any Colour Vinyl
  • Resprayed in any colour or desined to match your office
  • Fully working headlamps, hazards and spotlights
  • Stereo set into the dash with speakers in the parcel shelf
  • Choice of rims and tyres / personalised number plates
Mini Desk 1

Mini Desk 2

How cool is that? I bet you’ll come to work with a lot more appetite once you’ve turned your desk into a piece of cuteness like this. I also bet that if you could change this setup into a Mustang desk, someone else will be the first one to buy!

Joanna Krupa Strips Against Fur

16 Feb 2007

As quoted from FurIsDead: “An international cover model, actor, and spokesperson for Dollhouse Clothing, sexy supermodel Joanna Krupa is known for her famous photo shoots, but there’s one thing Joanna would never model: fur. The Polish-born beauty, who has graced the covers of many magazines—including Playboy, Maxim, FHM, and Stuff—laid her convictions bare, so to speak, by baring all in PETA´s latest and raciest “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad. And to top it off, she posed in not one but three versions of the sexy ad!” Too bad nobody ever got to ask Anna Nicole Smith what she thought of the entire concept.

Thanks, Joel

How Revolutionary Are Social Media

14 Feb 2007

There’s an upcoming event about the consequences and challenges for public relations, journalism and marketing which will be held on the 15th, 16th and 17th of March 2007 at the Artevelde College Ghent (Belgium). On the 15th, the event will be in the Dutch language, the other two days the main language will be in English.

A year ago, EuroBlog 2006 showed that interactive social media technologies – weblogs, podcasts, wikis, real simple syndication, folksomonies, social tagging, personal networks and other species of social software and services – were beginning to impact on communications in many different ways. The 2007 symposium will present insights from EuroBlog 2007, the second pan-European quantitative survey on the usage of social media by communication professionals, draw new theoretical insights and respond to industry feedback by identifying and presenting examples of best practice.

A must for every communication professional !

The EuroBlog conference, which will be held on 16 and 17 March of 2007, is to take place during a larger event, starting on the 15th of March already: the Chair Jos Willems, organised by the Communications Management and Journalism departments of Artevelde College in Ghent (Belgium) and named after the man who started the college over 40 years ago. Artevelde College and Euprera are organising the EuroBlog 2007 Conference together.

If you’re interested in social media and the impact they have on the field of communications (be it in pr, marketing communications as well as journalism), the EuroBlog conference is a must, especially considering the fact that on 16 March the results of the EuroBlog 2007 survey, conducted in co-operation with Euprera, will be made public.

Participants and top speakers from across Europe

Participants at EuroBlog 2007 are expected, as last year, to consist of researchers from all over Europe (including many involved in the Euprera network of academics from more than 30 countries) as well as communications executives from major companies, institutions, agencies and service providers specialised in the field of online campaigns, interactive media, digital communication and issues monitoring.

Speakers include a wide variety of top researchers and practitioners from nine countries. Keynote speaker at the Chair Jos Willems on Friday is Neville Hobson, managing partner of crayon (the first virtual communication agency), podcasting guru (For Immediate Release) and blogger on www.nevillehobson.com.

Register today!

The number of seats at the Chair Jos Willems is not unlimited. So register quickly and make sure you do not miss out on this unique opportunity to sharpen your knowledge on social media as well networking with a fine selection of people with whom you share professional interests.

About Jos Willems

Lost In Post-Its

13 Feb 2007

Alejandro sent in this great ad they’ve done for Post-it, the sticky yellow notes. It’s quite a brainbreaker if you’re not up to date with the popular series ‘Lost’, but if you are a regular watcher you’ll know for sure what it means. On the one hand I love it how they break down the target audience to ‘the in-crowd’ that follows the hit series, but on the other hand it’s a long shot to reach out to the thousands of people who don’t. Leaving them out of the campaign seems a bit like a waste of money to me… I don’t know. I’m still torn between: “hey this is cool” and “wtf”. If I didn’t know that the island inhabitants needed to enter “4 8 15 16 23 42″ every 108 minutes on a computer to control the magnetic field that keeps the island together, the entire message would just go by unnoticed. On the other hand, if you know what it means you have a ‘wow’ feeling when you see the ad. Pretty cool though. Would be a great brand placement if it actually was used in the series itself.

Ricky Gervais On The O&A Show

13 Feb 2007

Four parts of goodiness with Ricky Gervais and Opie & Anthony. Totally. The movies are short, and basically Opie & Anthony just interview Ricky Gervais, but it’s good laugh :) – Take a 15 minute break to learn a little more about David Brent, the enfant terrible of middle management and the man behind him.

Stormy Toptopical

13 Feb 2007

A little while ago, Europe was tormented by a storm of ‘rare’ force, wind speeds exceeding limits that haven’t been touched in years and years. On the day of the storm, when I drove up the yard, I had to put my car aside because some tree decided to fall right over the road, blocking all access. It took me 3 hours of chopping (the old fashion way with an axe and a saw) to cut off all the tree branches and the foliage and to get the tree trunk into movable pieces to clear the road. And then I was amongst the lucky ones. People died, houses were blown apart, small local floods, bigger floods, roof tiles flying around… The next day, an ad for Mercator – an insurance company – appeared in the paper:

Mercator Toptopical

A painful toptopical for the victims, but right on-point.

Client: Mercator Insurances
Agency: Duval Guillaume Antwerp
Creative Directors: Dirk Domen, Geoffrey Hantson
Copywriter: Kristof Snels
Art Director: Sebastien De Valck

Thanks, Sebastien

Global Warming Can Be Amusing

13 Feb 2007

Looks like Al Gore teamed up with Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama. On a side note, who else thinks Troy McClure looks a bit like Al Gore? I can’t believe I never saw these :) They’re so inconveniently funny, and so true.
