PeTA Versus Fur

06 Oct 2006

Back in July I already posted about the ad for PETA where Dallas Cowboys cheerleader/Baywatch babe Bonnie-Jill Laflin posed to buck the rodeo. Last night while checking my mail, I came across an e-mail from Ben that had a dozen of PeTA ads in it, with the one from Jill Laflin included. Although I’m not quite sure they’ve all been launched at the same time, I thought I’d line them up here so you could get an overview. The messages in the ads go from “go vegetarian” to “don’t wear fur” with a lot of variations on the theme, so most likely these campaigns were spread over time.

I think PETA is an okay cause, but i find their slogans quite condenming. They are not advertising the positives side of being vegetarian but they are pointing fingers at those of us that love to eat meat, can kill it and eat it without feeling bad about it.
Guess what you can catch bees with honey not vinegar. So try telling me what the advantages of being a vegetaterians are as opposed to telling me not to stop eating meat.

Also, why do i have canines if it not there for a good reason. Yeah well they may not be as sharp as a lion’s but i still have them. If man was meant to be vegetarian then why do we have canines.

My policy is live and let live. I love meat and anything that has to do with meat. I have killed a chicken before and i felt nothing. I love animals and used to have pets, when i was younger. But as someone has already stated some animals are to there for a reason. Chickens, turkey are meant to be eating. If you want them as pet fair enough your decision.

But how about people in poor countries how are you contributing to the lives of our fellow humans being? People are dying of hunger. I was unfortunate enough to experience starvation when we were cut off from any form of food supply for months. Not knowing where your next meal was coming from, the last thing on my mind or anyone elses was whether or not to eat meat.

The only thing i could not see myself doing was eating my dogs or any pet. As far i was concerned my dogs where a part of the family.

Oh well there you go.I have vegeterian friends we just respect each other’s decision full stop.

Vegetarians have a good point in wanting to preserve animals, but think about it. There are how many people in the world? The answer is a lot. Not very many are vegetarians, and as long as people eat meat, there will be supply for it. Also, the animals that we eat are already dead, enjoy yourself, you won’t be as healthy without meat.

Get over it you Peta lovers it’s all right if you want to be Veggies but you’re all hypocrites trying to get people to stop hunting! You wouldn’t be on this earth if your forefathers didn’t hunt!

    to vegans:
people like me are turned off by your pressing argument that usually involve yelling and littered with unsubstanciated facts.

    to non-vegans:
don’t be such ignorant morons, understand where the other side is coming from and take a little from it.

I am not a vegan, however I do beleive that animals deserve better than what they get. i beleive that animals that are used for slaughter deserve humane conditions and a humane youthenisation (if thats an easier word for ya) i beleive that when an animal is killed, it should not be for sport and that when killed as much of the animal should be used as possible. when it comes to the “feelings” they have, its the same as ours, synaptic firings that our brain interprets, basically means we are reacting to stimuli, basic biology. hell, if people tasted good enough i would try it (cruel sounding i know but my point is valid), on a side note human is actually better for another human meal wise, just in case you crash in the Andes. Peta has gone about what they promote wrongly, they have attacked and assaulted people, they use a basic male impulse (seeing a female naked) and are basically no better than those “big corperations” who use the same thing to sell their products. as for humans not being built to be carnavores, your right, we are omnivores, like bears, we need both meat and plant life to keep functional, our structure does not allow for oversized canines, our teeth are a balanced mix for what we need to ingest. someone argued that our digestive system isn’t designed for it, your wrong, go down to your local community college and take an anatomy course. i’m not even going to go into that and promote stupid responses about it. as humans we were never meant to be preditory, we are not equipped to do that, we have no outstanding offensive, or defensive for that matter, appendages, and compared to our primate brethren we are extremely weak even with conditioning. in the words of dennis leary, “not eating meat is a choice, eating meat is an instinct” whatever your opinion is have the decency to respect the other side, if we can’t even treat eachother decently, then how are we suppose to help another species, or our planet for that matter

well, there’s my opinion on it. the sad fact is i have contributed to an argument in a blog over peta advertisements that should have never been started, at least the pictures are decent, a nice artistic feel to them without being unaccessible. damn art school and teaching me to analise things like that!
*my apologies for my misspellings, being too lazy to go back an fix ‘em

  7. Animal Lover, yet Meat Eater

    January 10, 2008 at 4:57 pm

I guess maybe it’s because I’m at work and bored that I actually sat here and read all of these responses. I have noticed that most of the people here that left comments are ignorant to the facts of their individual causes, “eat” or “don’t eat” meat. I agree with Adam in that the human body needs meat in order to survive. These so called “supplements” that vegans take to supplement the fact that they do no eat meat, are in fact derrived from the byproducts of meat (the stuff left on the floor after slaughter).

I get so tired of people who bring up passages from the Bible for their own causes. Some one here said that the Bible claims that we “are the sheppards” of all animals on Earth. Well that is true that it says that but if you bring that up, then you also should mention the parts where it says to “offer your sacrifice unto the Lord then rejoice and feast”. Honestly, how many of you offer an animal sacrifice to the Lord on every Saturday. I don’t and personally don’t know of anyone who does. So please stop with the Bible passages because it also states that the Morning Star (the Devil) shall use the Bible for his own evil gain to convince people to do evil unto the Lord. Now, I’m not a religious person by any means but I get so tired of people who “quote” the Bible when the book was simply written by man.

Where I come from, there is also a necessity to kill animals besides just for food. There are animals that due their breeding and eating habits, can and will destroy and entire ecosystem if left unchecked. So it is necessary to “thin” the species in certain areas not only for humans but so other species can also survive. This is a necessary thing that happens every where but is simply not discussed.

As far as fish, it is a proven and scientific fact that a fish’s brain cannot comprehend feelings such as love, pleasure and pain. Their brains are barely capable of sustaining their lives. The reason they react the way they do when on a hook is simply muscle reaction. The same way a chickens body reacts after it’s head is removed. Do you think a chicken still feels pain with no head? Also, most of the fish you would but in a store or a resturant, were not caught with hooks anyway. They were caught in nets.

It seems to me that only here in America does all of this moronic protesting about insignificant things begins. The environment, eating meat, blah, blah, blah… Don’t you people have more important things to do like spending time and making love to someone you care about? The Earth will take care of itself. So what if the external temperature of the Earth rises 3 degrees over the next 500 years. I don’t plan to be around that long. Do you?

Learn the facts before you comment and stop being brainwashed by the media. They are not here to offer enlightenment, but entertainment.

TO all people who think and pester about “meat should not be eaten”.In ancient times, do you think people were vegetarian?? Of course not. They wouldn’t be able to survive becuase there weren’t “special” products designed for vegetarians so they could have their daily iron, protein and fibre needs. Yes, animals feel pain but that’s the food chain, MATE! It would stuff up the eco system if we stopped killing animals for their tasty meat and fat and blubber and some other strange words.Vegans lack the vitamin “B 12″ since they don’t eat meat. They have to have suppliments, as Animal Lover, yet Meat Eater said, that are in other foods they eat. The only natural B 12 that a vegan could eat would be the dirt of a mushroom. (Sorry, it’s yucky, I know) Eating meat balances nature and KaBaM.

I understand “god” put animals on earth to eat.
But there’s a difference between eating them and wearing dead animals as fashion.

So many animals go instinct because people want to look “fashionable”
There’s more important things to worry about and there’s other materials you can use, why fur?
    ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS TOO.
You must be pretty selfish and heartless if you think otherwise.

People are gonna start caring when it’s to late.

I’m 14 years old and I plan on making a difference in this creul world.

“just because animals are weaker than us doesnt mean we have to kill them.” ??????????????

animal lover… i know you love animals and all but have you ever watched any human kick the crap out of any animal that isn’t a barnyard variety? a cougar (if it were possible) could out lift every human in it’s weight class… a cow or pig could outrun a human if we didn’t have spears, arrows, or guns. we’re not stronger, we’re smarter. all this talk of god put them here for this and god didn’t intend for this or that means nothing.

I work at a chicken hatchery, Ive also caught chickens to send them to the killing plant, so I have a bit of knoledge as to the industry. Just down the road from my house there was a lady with a sign that said boycott KFC with a picture of pamela anderson on it, next to her was another lady dressed up in a chicken suit with crutches. There point was that KFC was cruel to there chickens, hence the chicken with the crutch. Chickens that are gibeled at the farm or dameged while being caught( bruses and broken legs or wings) are no good to the killing plant anyways. that means the farmer loses money for the birds that cant be used and he/she does not want that. My second point,KFC doesnt have any farms, they buy already dead chicken, so WTF, and third what does pamela Handerson have to do with a broken chicken leg. You guys are trying to do something good I understand that but your constent statements that have not been reaserched is why people bag on you, Try to think of something logical and not so radical, and people might listen.

This is pretty simple…and for those pointing to the Bible to try and clarify why we SHOULDN’T eat animals, think a little harder. Humans have souls…animals don’t. When you were eight and your dog died, and you thought it went to heaven like everything else…sorry. I love animals too, but to think people are bad because they choose to eat them doesn’t make sense since humans are looked at as more important than the animals.

Listen all you people up in arms and crazy with contempt for those who eat meat and wear fur are totally out of line! If you pick up a National Geographic magazine, you will see that for centuries early Native Americans clothed and ate animals. It is totally mind boggling that this is an issue! Read your Bible or Quran. Common sense seems no longer common. Everyone wants to save the World, Enviroment, Eco system etc. Worry about yourselves and your short time here on Earth! Don’t judge or be judged by those same values. Try to keep it simple and just live your life with out imposing you beliefs onto others. Trust me when I say eventually we will all wind up in the same place…You want to make this World better be a good neighbor, Love your children and comfort those in need.

The people on here with views that it is fine to eat animals or use them in any way possible clearly have no morals.
Just because you think it is ok to treat other living things (who cant stop you themselves) with such disrespect does not make it right. People like you need to look at the bigger picture. Animals live, they are part of nature and man can live healthly without using them.
I have been researching animal welfare and right for over 8weeks now and i know the facts. You ignorant people need to open your eyes to what actually happens to these animals you eat, wear and test on.
No matter how many excuses you make for it, it will never be moral and you should carry a guilty conscience with you.
I hope one day that you will see the pain and suffering caused with your own eyes and find the compassion to stop it.

    Question…

    1. If I invited a vegetarian to my home for dinner, am I obligated or at least as a courtesy required to serve a vegetarian menu? If yes, would the same obligation/courtesy be extended to me if I was invited to a vegetarian’s home for dinner? 2. Would they prepare a dinner that included meat?

    1. I would adjust the menu as a courtesy to my guest. Its not a big deal.
    2. I would eat whatever is served by a host that invited me. Its not a big deal. But I would forever know the character of that host, base on how they would extend courtesy to their guest.

I consider an invited guest is a position of honor, not to be secondary to personal causes.

Many fish (salmon, etc.) do not have a nervous system meaning they cannot feel pain. They swim around with large bites out of them with no notice of that until they die. I do not care whether someone does or does not eat meat, but one should not insult or berate someone else because of their choice. Also, just ecause someone eats meat does not mean that that person supports animal curalty or would choose to weear fur. Leather if made from a cow that was killed for meat is not a waste; it is quite the opposite in fact because more of the animal was used.

ummmm people do know theres something called a food chain right? and we are on top of that food chain, meaning we can eat out of preference anything thats below us on this food chain, and everyone is entitled to there own opinion and for people to be vegetarian and say that anyone that eats meat is a heartless barbarian, well i say to you, well i fine with being a cruel meat eating beast, and dont worry, after us savages eat every last living creature on this earth then i guess we’ll have to the join the ranks as vegetarians :P but you people are right, spending millions of dollars trying to get peple to stop eating meat is alot more important then helping humans in the world dying of disease and hunger, theres some food for thought

I often can’t help but wonder. Why is it that so many people out there hate humans. So many people feel like we aren’t an intricate part of nature. Sure we don’t have claws are many sharp teeth, but we have the intelligence to make tools! We are different from most animals because of that intelligence. But so is a tiger different from an antelope. Shouldn’t we be aiming these ads at the tigers? But really folks, we’re just another link in the evolutionary chain. Don’t hate yourself for being human, enjoy the fact that you’re on top of the heap.

I agree, we shouldn’t wear fur at all. And if those of you who do wear real fur, but say that it’s not like you are physically killing the animals, you are not. But you are, however, supporting the fact that killing these innocent animals is okay to do, which is not.
I don’t care whoever disagrees with me, but this is only MY opinion!

Fur only looks better when its on the original owner!!

Dear Friends and who ever reads this.

I am sure that many of you all who eats animal product does not like to believe in Vegetarianism and me being one of the people who is of JAIN religion and born veg…

What is my point in convincing you none….

Just imagine that some one wants to injure your self and hurt you and kill you….fear yes
But more fear is the thought when some one wants to kill your loved ones like a child or a son or cut his leg out.. We feel pain even on thoughs, when some one is dead in our house we Mourn for days

When it comes to animals, most would not care, its just chicken or a goat, who got killed.

Well Just to let you all know, they feel the same pain too… we all know this.

Whats the problem then…. its the society all we live in…
How will my friends think, when i go VEG.
    How will my wife behave,
    What will my collagues think
    What will my inlaws think…

Well Just Have GUTS to say, i do care for a life , which ONLY GOD has the power to destroy.

If you are Christian.. Just know that Jesus Cared and Loved for Animals
If you are Hindu… We were taught this in schools
If you are Buddhist… This is in the religion
If you are Muslim… The word Halal was for less torture to the killing when animal was sick and not for food…
If you are a genuine believer of GOD, This change in your life will open millions of home..

Well Not releigious then be a mathematician…
One chicken eats 25 KG of grain and is only a one time meal.. while 25 Kg of grain can feed a family of 4 for one week in poor country..

BE Brave to change to VEG.
    GOD BLESS ALL OF US.

I support PETA and all that its trying to accomplish but I’m not a vegetarian. I just don’t think it is right to allow mega-poultry farms and huge dairy farms to treat the animals that they own like absolute garbage just so that they can spend a marginally less amount of money. People say they do not want to pay the extra money to buy meat from properly bred cows but if legislation were passed to stop the cruelty, the cost of all meat would stay almost exactly the same due to the fact that the supply and demand would stay exactly the same… I just don’t get why people would rather be ignorant to something if it would take so very little of their effort to stop it.

I’m throwing a BBQ. On one grill I have beef, pork, chicken, elk, bison, shrimp, fish and any other meat my local farm provides. On the other all veggies; peppers, onions, zuchini, squash, vegetable succatash and pineapple.

Eat whatever you like, wear whatever you like. Get in anybody else’s face about what they are eating or wearing and they get tossed out on their asses.

Whether they are naked or in head to toe leather as long as you aren’t a d**k you are welcome.

PETA isn’t invited, ask Rob Coronado why.
