Ricky Gervais For Red Nose Day

23 Mar 2007

On March 16th, Comic Relief – The Big One – raised a massive £40,236,142 million – the biggest ever total on a Red Nose Day night and the money is still pouring in! The mammoth seven hour show on BBC ONE, featured the biggest line up of presenters ever including Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand, Lenny Henry, Davina McCall, Graham Norton, Paul O’Grady, Fearne Cotton, Kate Thornton and Chris Evans, who was overwhelmed by the success of the show, saying ‘This is by far the most exciting Comic Relief night I’ve ever been to – it’s the best comedy ever’. One of the most memorable highlights was Ricky Gervais’ special ‘appeal film’ starring Sir Bob Geldof, Bono, Stephen Merchant, Jamie Oliver and Andi Peters. It’s brilliant :)

E5 Fashion

19 Mar 2007

Pretty funny campaign from Belgian origin, with a little twist at the end of the clip. The story behind the idea is this one (it’s also the copy of the ad): “Do you also have a bulged out closet and still can’t find anything to wear? E5 fashion wants to do something about it, so don’t hestitate to make an appointment with the styling consultant in your E5 fashion store on www.e5mode.be or via 03/760.39.75. Our goal is to make you leave our store with our advice: as yourself in a style that suits you.” – As much as I like the idea, I think it’s really derogatory to the man in the last frame to be pictured in his pinkinsh/purplish undies in the middle of all the women, especially when the tagline reads: “89% of women yet again didn’t have something to wear this morning” (added with: “Others just let themselves be advized”). Okay, the guy wears pink undies, but that only makes him half a woman, or perhaps he’s single and screwed up his laundry. Either way, as a man, I feel personally cheated on. I call ‘bogus’ on this campaign and its statistics! (just kidding, but I thought it was funny they’ve also put a man in it)

Absolut Pictures

14 Mar 2007

This has got to be one damn expensive commercial, but it’s by far one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s actually way more than your standard 30-second clip. It’s a mini movie, and it’s said to be shot by Sam Raimi for the Absolut Pictures project. The Absolut Pictures campaign is pretty old already, but I was so glad to see this again :) Absolut Good Times :) – The trailer title is ‘Hey Stranger’, by the way.Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Smooth Criminal

07 Mar 2007

The first contribution for the contest is in. It’s the new commercial for men’s magazine ‘P-Magazine’ entitled ‘Smooth criminal’. Can a rude and aggressive gangster resist the good looks of a beautiful girl? Well, boys will be boys, they say. Especially when Belgian model Sylvie De Caluwé is around.

BumpTop 3D Desktop

06 Mar 2007

This has been around for about a year or so, but I never got to blog about it. Then today I accidentally stumbled upon a video from the project and I just wanted to add this to my archive, for keepers. I have a thing for virtual toys and projects. This particular one is from Anand Agarawala & Ravin Balakrishnan for the DGP (Dynamic Graphics Project) at the university of Toronto, Canada. The University of Toronto’s Dynamic Graphics Project (dgp) is an interdisciplinary research laboratory within the Department of Computer Science. The lab’s mission is advanced research and graduate instruction in human-computer interaction and computer graphics. DGP is home base to Computer Science faculty and students in these two areas.

Bumpshot

I don’t think I can live with this sort of desktop, because I’m too attached to seeing a file name under an icon and to ‘folders’ where I can stash stuff in to. This BumpTop desktop, however, is quite a refreshing idea and I love where this is going. It would be great to have it as an optional feature in my current OS, but not really as a permanent environment to work in. That’s my two cents. Looks super smooth though.

Educational Pocket Money

05 Mar 2007

Okay, this is for the student readers who are short of educational small change and need to get educational drinks from an educational vending machine. I love social engineering :) It brings out the rebel in all of us. These skills are for educational purposes only, for instance if you want to help your friends learn how to be educational as well.

Le Bureau

27 Feb 2007

Looks like our French neighbors have adapted Ricky Gervais’ concept and they started making ‘Le Bureau’ last year. The setting is Villepinte, a business park in the northeast suburbs of Paris. The series stars François Berléand as Gilles Triquet, France’s version of David Brent. Another notable actor, Jérémie Elkaïm, also stars in the series playing the French version of Tim Canterbury. Filming with the French cast was completed in early February; the series began airing on May 25. A second season is already in the works and the writer-director duo of Nicholas and Bruno say at least one show will focus on a French perennial: strikes.

International Shutdown Day 2007

26 Feb 2007

On March 24th it’s international Shutdown Day. It’s not related to the Live Earth event, but it’s also an initiative with a ‘community’ background. Basically it’s to see what would happen if as many people as possible would turn off their computers for just one day. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate.

Shutdown Day 2007

Here’s a funny clip to support this project, which highlights alternative uses for laptops. Do not try this with your corporate equipment.
