Vespa Soho

11 Jun 2006

The Vespa, first manufactured in Pontedera, Italy in 1946 by Piaggio & Co, is an icon in the cityscapes all over the world. Especially here in Europe, you’ll see it everywhere around you. It’s no surprise that Vespa immigrated to the States, together with a lot of Italians and their pasta and pizza recipes. Vespa Soho, the store in New York, had some ads running to promote the motor scooters in the Big Apple, one of the most crowded and most urban cities on this planet. These ads are quite nice, especially if you imagine the Vespa being the pinball.

Paris / Las Vegas

11 Jun 2006

R&R Partners launched a few nice ads to promote Paris Las Vegas (check it out). Las Vegas, as no other gambling resort on Earth, always had this mystical atmosphere and lured many fortune seekers into its palaces. Movies like GoodFellas, Casino and the Ocean’s series made it even more attractive. There’s something specific, something miraculous, something sexy with Las Vegas. One day I’d like to go there… just to be part of it. Paris Las Vegas has a mini Eiffel Tower and a very typical decorative style. Something you either love or hate. Most people love it. I know I do. But as Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) said in Casablanca: “we’ll always have Paris”. And nothing beats the real ‘city of love’. Not even a casino in Las Vegas. Nice try though.

Smooth Wax

11 Jun 2006

Cool ad for furniture bee wax. I totally agree with what’s written on AdvertisingForPeanuts. There’s nothing like an ad that shows you a segment of a story, where your imagination is tempted to come up with what previously happened, and what’ll happen next. Creativity is one thing. Being able to trigger creativity by means of a creative concept is even more admirable. Smooth thinking :)

The Adidas Fresco

10 Jun 2006

In the railway station in Köln, Cologne (Germany), TBWA Germany set up a massive, massive spectacle. Never seen before and truly amazing, they painted (or covered) the entire ceiling for an Adidas branded classicistic experience. Crazy is it seems, it’s the god-ification of football and it’s driven to the max. Looking at these pictures, you’ve got to admit they’ve pulled this off
pretty damn good.

Dexia Warns Football Players

10 Jun 2006

Heheh. Here’s an awareness poster from Dexia (a bank and sponsor for Club Brugge, the football team from Brughes) that has been put in the dressing room of the players. The ad says it all :)

Sips Bar

10 Jun 2006

There’s a place in Antwerp that you’ve really got to see. I’ve been going there since it opened its doors a few years ago. The owner/bartender is Manu, he worked for many years on the QE II, that famous cruise ship, where he tought the other bartenders how to make the perfect cocktails. He knows over 3000 cocktails by heart and my God, he knows how to make you feel special with each drink he serves. I’ve never tasted the cocktails so good and I’ve never seen them so been taken care of. Really. If you’re ever in Antwerp for a night out, (or if you’ve just moved to Antwerp) there’s one place to go to. Check out the Sips Bar. It’s located at the Gillisplaats right on the corner of the ‘Waterpoort’ a funny mini Arc De Triomphe (like they have in Paris). You’ll be incredibly glad to have been there! That said, here’s a stylish ad for Manu’s ‘Ladies Night’ every tuesday. The ad isn’t from this year, but I really like the way it brings the message.

Eye Care Foundation

10 Jun 2006

Usually when something breaks and I still have a spare, I don’t mind that much. That rule doesn’t count when it comes to parts of my body like arms, legs or eyes. The Eye Care Foundation thought the same thing when they launched this campaign a while ago. I like the way they saw this (pun intended) and how they used painted faces to strengthen their statement.

This one is aimed at the fireworks users:

Fireworks

Copy: “The day fireworks are banned opthamologists will set some off – 200 people lose their eyesight due to fireworks every year. Don’t be one of them”

This one is aimed at all drivers and passengers in traffic:

Accidents

Copy: “Buckling up is much easier than learning braille – 200 people lose their eyesight in traffic accidents every year. Protect yourself. Buckle up”

Thanks, Ben

Ché Magazine

09 Jun 2006

Ché is a Belgian magazine which focuses on Men and what they’re interested in. Most of the time you could say it’s women, fast cars, cool gadgets and some other trivial things. It’s a good magazine and it had some great campaigns, like the ones featured below. The first ad is new to me, and Kris windowshopped it at SeaSpace, which is weird because it’s on the other side of the world. The other two are older ads which were created by Duval Guillaume Antwerp, and I had them in my archive in a tinier form. Luckily Kris kept the big sized images, so I uploaded them to Flickr. Enjoy some nice Belgian advertising!
