Craprr Is Gone

22 Jun 2006

Jason and I decided to kill craprr.com and redirect the domain to his new blog. We made our point, we had our slogan. ‘Loser-generated content’ is still all around, we just don’t have time to save up on the bullshit we come across and reblog it over at craprr.

We had a good laugh, and yeah, there was quite some traffic. But really. There’s other and more important things to attend to right now. Instead of letting craprr die and stop posting while the blog was still live, we decided it would be better to put an end to it right away.

The only thing I took with me is the great Listr. A list of all ‘rrrrrr’ 2.0 companies that recently popped up in the slipstream of Flickr and thought the ‘r’ was a necessary item to be able to qualify for ‘being 2.0′. I’ll blog the entire list later tonight in a new post, because I still have to add some new things to it. The rest wasn’t even worth taking over because we didn’t call it ‘Loser-generated content’ for its good quality. Au contraire, my dearest friends. :)

If you were a visitor at craprr.com, glad we had you in there for a laugh. We hope you had some fun, so did we. But now it’s time to move on.

Although we thought we came up with the slogan ‘Loser-generated content’, somebody beat us to it. Alex Barnett already mentioned it in November 2005. Damn. We never even Googled the phrase untill now. :) Ah well. Whatever.

Blog Of The Week

21 Jun 2006

Hey, this is nice. Apparently I’m ‘blog of the week’ over at Sunny Man’s Blog. They even wrote some nice things about me. I’m honored, really. Thanks !

Coolz0r – Marketing Thoughts is a blog that’s updated regularly by a bloke who resides in Belgium. He talks about different advertising campaigns that big a little companies alike do. He dives into detail and explains every part of the campaigns explaining why they’ve done what they have and what the effect is. As well as using his own image library of the campaigns he comments on posts from other alike blogs. [...]

The author updates the site regularly and you’re guarenteed at least a few funny images or copy during the week. I’ve been reading it for just a couple months but I’ve found it interesting, insightful and very, very funny sometimes. Please go to his blog, start from the first post and go through. I guarantee you’ll like what you read and see.

See, it’s stuff like this that makes it all worth it. Screw the stats (for a moment). This is why I like to blog. Thank you, Sunny Man. I really appreciate it !!!

Sphere Blog Search

02 May 2006

Sphere Blog Search just went ‘officially’ live at 7 AM this morning. The new v1.5 release (after the original beta) includes following updates:

  • custom range histogram;
  • sphere it bookmarklet that makes it easy to find blog posts that relate to what you’re reading on the Web;
  • top queries this hour/ this week;
  • RSS for search results;
  • community feedback buttons throughout the site;
  • expanded related media verticals including podcasts (Yahoo! API), books (Amazon API), and photos (CNET Webshots API);
  • expanded related news articles coverage (over 50 mainstream news sites such as CNN, NYT, ESPN, Fox, USA Today to name a few);
  • expanded profiles;
  • featured blogs for 12,000+ keyword search terms covering over 500 broad topics including baseball, anime, food, web 2.0, tech news, knitting, culture, etc.;
  • a brand new back end that scales.

I’ve had my beta invite since somewhere in November and I must say, it grew fast and I’m quite impressed with the end result. I think I’m going to use Sphere a lot more often. Sure there were some small problems in the beginning, but those are all gone now. You really should check this out !

Sphere

Most important are the featured blogs for over 12K keywords. That’s really impressive. The other thing I like a lot is the fact you can subscribe to RSS feeds of any search result and that podcasts and other media are immediately included and linked to your search query. This is about the most complete niche search ever. If they should start a ranking system, I bet they could easily leave Technorati behind.

Try Sphere

I really appreciate it. For those who don’t know Max: he has a blog I read and a book I’ve read.

KaylaX & MarlaX

27 Apr 2006

I’ve been getting a lot of comments on my blog recently from different people with different email addresses. The IP address is always different too and there’s no http link specified in the url box, mostly just ‘#’.

It doesn’t qualify as spam because it goes nowhere and the comments don’t advertize a product or service. Most of the comments are in the meme of: “Hey, good article, I liked it a lot. MarlaX” or “Great blog, KaylaX” and so on.

What’s up with this? Is it a way to get into the unapproved commenting area? Because when I approve the comment, the next time somebody posts from that same IP with that same email address, the comment normally slips through without me having to confirm it. Then again, as soon as an http address is inserted it moves back to the moderation cue.

Akismet doesn’t seem to catch it, because it doesn’t look like spam at all. Perhaps I should just remove the words KaylaX and MarlaX and approve the comments because hey, they’re nice comments after all.

Still, I wonder what’s the deal with this.

Project Z: Help Needed

26 Apr 2006

For my project, I’m looking for two things to complete my setup for the Internal Knownledge Network I’m currently building. It’s my final project for school, my graduation project, however you want to call it.

I’m looking for a tool to make real-time live tagging possible. I’ve just integrated a slug in the post-interface where you can add tags, then there’s an AJaX tagsearch engine connected to those tags. Now I’d like to add something to it that would allow other people than the one who originally posted the message to add tags to that post without having to log in.

Example: Person A posts an idea, links it up with some clients by tagging it with the names of those clients. Person B reads the entry and thinks the idea could also be useful to some other projects of which person A didn’t think of. Now it should be possible for person B to add tags to the existing tags, without going into the ‘edit’ mode. So I’m looking for a sort of form field that can be added at the end of the listed tags, where anyone within the network can add more tags. Those tags should then be a) sent to the tag archive, b) added to the AJaX tagsearch and cloud en c) either appear in real time or after the page is reloaded.

The other thing I’m looking for is ‘User Profiles’ that can be extended. Right now every author has a page which comes standard in WordPress. I’d like to add more fields to that page and extract some data from it to display it on another page. The profiles should be public so that people in the network can ‘check’ each other. I’d like the data to be extractable because I want to have something like a birthday notification or favorite movie of the week… stuff like that. The user profiles should either be the existing author pages, but then in an extended and editable form, or some sort of plug which can work with WordPress.

UPDATE: I’m modding the profiles.php page and I’m creating extra slugs. I think I’m getting there if I can make the DB remember what I typed into the slugs because when I click ‘update’ the fields are blank again. If I look into this some more I think I’ll be able to fix it. That leaves just the first remark to be solved, but any tips in user profiles are still welcome.

Any pointers? – Thanks already.
