Don’t Talk The Movie Talk

Duval Guillaume Brussels came up with some nice ads for Ace-Group T, an institute that organises language courses. Very often I meet people who speak English in a way that seems they’ve mentally cut and pasted dialogues from movies. Oneliner after oneliner they work their way through a conversation. On the one hand it’s very funny but on the other hand it’s a sad fact and it looks incredibly unprofessional. The guys over at Duval clearly saw it the same way when they ok’d this series of ads. I can’t say that I disagree. The ads are quite funny and express the unfortunate position people with a low knowledge of the language experience. Rather painful sometimes, especially the one with the funeral.

Ace GroupT 1

Copy:
“Any of you pricks move, and I’ll shoot every motherfucking last one of ya”
“Don’t learn languages through movies > Language courses > Ace-GroupT”

This quote is from Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, but should actually read: “Any of you fucking pricks move, and I’ll execute every motherfucking last one of ya!”

Copy:
“Hasta la vista, baby”
“Don’t learn languages through movies > Language courses > Ace-GroupT”

This quote is from the movie ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ (1991). It means literally, “until the seeing”, but is used in the sense “until next time”.

Copy:
“May the force be with you”
“Don’t learn languages through movies > Language courses > Ace-GroupT”

    The terminator line is better as they wrote it. It’s punnier.

    First one is actually wrong.. should be
    “Any of you fucking pricks move, and I’ll execute every motherfucking last one of ya!”
