State Of This Blog

16 Jun 2006

Okay. This is the 1000th post. Time for some thinking and some stats. You can skip this post if you think it’s too boring.

Although this post is actually article number 1039, I screwed up exactly 39 times so I had to delete those articles. Right now there are 691 comments and Akismet protected me from 1841 spam comments. I have 34 categories, but I’ll drop about half of them in the next design update. I wrote about 400 posts in plain html before I merged to WordPress, and back then I didn’t know that I could modify the posting date, so January 2006 actually has about 300 posts in it, which I still have to adjust.

When I look at the stats today, I see they rise quite fast. My hosting provider upgraded my account, but I don’t know how long I can pull it off before I cross the traffic limit again. I’ve started using Flickr for the large versions of the ads, so that should take away some traffic and hotlinking to images.

Right now I’ve had 5.273.315 hits, 891.959 pages loaded and 364.721 visits, counting from June 2005. Too bad webalizer only shows the last 12 months, so I’m missing April and May 2005, but since the blog was only starting up and totally not so optimized, it’s not such a great loss.

On May 12th of last year I joined Technorati and since then I silently climbed to spot number 4,301 (880 links from 367 sites). That’s not bad at all. I’m really satisfied with it. Linklove is such a nice way to show your appreciation. I try to do it as much as I can, and apparently it pays. :)

My Eh?List stats say that Google has indexed 9,220 of my pages of and that I have 808 links from blogs whereas Yahoo has indexed only 1,470 of my pages with 22,400 back-links to my site.

Query searches on the three main search engines for “site:blog.coolz0r.com” say:

MSN: 3,842 results containing site:blog.coolz0r.com
Google: about 9,290 results from blog.coolz0r.com in 0.44 sec
Yahoo: about 1,520 from blog.coolz0r.com in 0.56 sec

I don’t know what that means, but I see a lot of differences in the results. It appears that Google indexes ‘everything’, including category pages and archives.

I’m still number one for the keywords “Coolz0r” and “coolzor”, which is nice. I’m also number one for “marketing thoughts”.

On Google, Coolz0r yields 105.000 results and Coolzor 22.700. Marketing thoughts yields 39.500.000 results.
On Yahoo, Coolz0r yields 125.000 results and Coolzor 8.350. Marketing thoughts yields 15.500.000 results.
On MSN, Coolz0r yields 15.963 results and Coolzor 3.459. Marketing thoughts yields 1.613.643.

On MSN I lost first place for ‘marketing thoughts’ to Findory so I’m counting on Greg to defend my honor there.

Google Analytics shows in a Geo Map overlay the visitors from january 2006, which started counting the time I put the code online in the footer of this blog, January 15th. I’m flying between 800 and 3000 pageviews daily, and averagely 536 people drop by who then visit 2 to 4 individual pages, according to Analytics which doesn’t count image hits or feed requests. Webalizer says that for this month I have a daily average of 3507 visits, 7577 pages and 43.385 hits. Which is nice. Really nice. Those visitors come from a lot of different places:

I’m happy where this is going. Although the blog originally started out as a personal archive to stack creative things and ideas, I’m really glad so many people like it, so I’d like to thank everyone who drops by every once in a while to see what’s up. Really. The occasional feedback makes it all worth it. I’ll try to keep it up and again, thanks, readers, wherever you are.

[...] I just needed to say this. Miel – aka Coolz0r – just wrote his 1.000th post on his ‘Marketing Thoughts’ blog and I’m impressed of the stats. Not that it was a big surprise, because I know Miel is writing for a quite big international audience but still, kudos for Miel. [...]
