Skynet, one of Belgium’s biggest portal sites, is going to launch a series of commercials starring Jean-Marie Pfaff to join the World Cup fever meme. Mister Pfaff is famous in Belgium, not only because of his goalkeeping skills and his long history in the Belgian football league, but also because he gave remarkable interviews in semi-German to the press, mixing the Dutch and the German language in an effort to express himself. This became his (unwished for) gimmick and people all over the country found it very amusing to see (and hear) him on TV. Later on he started his own reality soap in the trail of The Osbournes, so the entire family became ‘famous’ in Flanders. Here’s the first commercial of the series, the others are still in the editing room ;)
It’s quite possible that you don’t understand it, unless you’re a bit familiar with the Dutch and German language, but a few radio stations were already talking about it here in Belgium, so I dug up the clip, uploaded it to Google Video and linked it here. A bit of ‘local’ fun once in a while has never hurt anyone. :)
