These two ads for Chiclets, a brand of chewing gum, are really cool. There’s something special about them that attracts me. On the one hand they remind me of a classic mosaic you often see in old churches or monasteries, on the other hand they look like some sort of artwork from around the late 20’s or 30’s of the previous century. It’s not quite abstract, it’s not quite pointillism, although it reminds me of the method Seurat used in his work La Parade (1889), but then in a more austere way. I don’t know how exactly to explain it.
