When Apple buzzed that new and totally stunning Apple ads were coming our way, I think a lot of people got their hopes up. I did too. What we’ve gotten however is rather disappointing. The same old cliches, that old PC vs Mac theme. Spun out over a few clips that are funny once, but not really twice. PC’s aren’t so corporate as the clips want to make you believe. Macs do have their flaws as well. The atmosphere the commercials evoke is that same old 80’s and 90’s feeling. Big Blue against the colored hippies. Corporate vs. Creative. None of that is true anymore. A few very skilled designers I know work on PC’s. I love my PC and wouldn’t trade for a Mac + money. Macs are good, but not always, and they do freeze as well. I expected more from Apple, especially after the Switch Ads. This is just… silly.

[...] There’s a new series of ‘PC vs Mac’ ads that has been released on the Apple.com site. These ones are actually slightly better than the first ones I wrote about a month ago. Although they’re in the same meme, the subjects touched are a bit more to the point. There’s still a lot of cliches as you could’ve expected. But either I’m getting used to this sense of humor (which I hope I’m not) or the content of the ads is a bit more funny to listen to. I haven’t quite figured it out. Whatever. I think the first one makes a valid point, as opposed to some other clips of the previous series. The ‘out of the box’ thing is true. The ‘Pie Charts’ clip (second one) is funny, but the comparison is rather lame. But it’s a geeky take on leisure time. I think I’d stick to the PC and Windows, just because of the pie charts I can make to illustrate my holiday. :) The third one is called ‘Touché’. It’s the third clip of the three. Nothing to add about it. [...]
