No More Sheep-vertising

24 Apr 2006

A few weeks ago I posted about a new trend in The Netherlands, where you could advertise on cattle flocks, using a special ‘blue jacket’. A few days later the internet saw the first pictures of Hotels.nl sponsored sheep. Seems you won’t be able to do that anymore…

From Cape Argus:

A mayor in the Netherlands intends to impose a hefty fine on sheep carrying advertising for a hotel website, citing a law banning roadside advertising.

Yesterday Bert Kuiper, the mayor of Skarstelan, said the offending advertising had to be removed by Monday. If the farmers concerned failed to comply they would face a fine of €500 per sheep per day.

The sheep wear dark blue jackets with white lettering and a pink logo advertising the website Hotels.nl, through which hotel accommodation can be booked.

Thanks, Luc
