Where Confiscated Goods Are Auctioned

01 May 2005

In the battle against worldwide terrorism a lot of laws have been inventend to preserve public safety. Especially airports have been given strict prodcedures to check passengers, but in general, if you need any form of public or private transportation that is bigger than a bus, you and your luggage will get a very thorough check-up. Scissors, knives, anything pointy gets confiscated. So where do these things go, once belonging to you? E-Bay of course !

The State of Oregon is selling :

20-Assorted Multi-Tools, NTSA Seizures ( 1 day, 1 hour left )

ebay1 ebay2 ebay3

Assorted Scissors, NTSA Seizures ( 1 day, 1 hour left )

And a many other things .

Makes you wonder what they’ll do with drugs and weapons. :)

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to sell confiscated goods, but I don’t think you should be offering them on an auction site. I think it’s be better to either destroy them or figure out a method in which you can claim your stuff back once you return to the country or something. One could even consider charity or ’sending it to Africa’ for that matter.

I know ‘Law & Order’ could do with a little more money, but I don’t think it’s fair to make it this way. Perhaps these sales are common in the States. But they sure aren’t over here.
