One Shining Moment

06 Apr 2006

See, this why sports in Belgium don’t really are that spectacular. Even the football games are lame. With some exceptions, you can be glad there are two or three goals in a soccer match and it’s not because both teams are equally strong. As far as for basketball, there are no big arenas. There aren’t thousands of people. There are no theme songs and the basketball sport is hardly covered on tv. This song and compilation gave me chills from just watching it and listening to it. It’s small things like this that connect regular people to a sport and its stars. This is very good marketing. Enjoy the ‘One Shining Moment 2006 NCAA Tournament’.

One final note about Belgian sports: although I find the cycling sport extremely boring to look at for the first few hours of a race, cycling’s world champion Tom Boonen is a joy to look at when he takes the final sprint. That’s the one shining moment I enjoy to see. He doesn’t have a victory tune though.

FYI, the featured movie is ‘college sports’, it’s not the pro league yet. Imagine this in a tiny country like Belgium, where the pro games don’t even get one fifth of that audience, not to mention tv coverage like this, theme song included.

Toyota Mountain Goat

06 Apr 2006

LG&F Brussels came up with this photoshopped ad for Toyota. Kind of adventurous isn’t it? I wondered how the goats got there at first glance, but luckily that’s explained with the (*).

When I Grow Up

05 Apr 2006

Advertising For Peanuts points to this great ad for monster.com that goes around on YouTube and made it to a lot of adsites already. It’s a cute ad, but on the other hand it’s quite frightening.

Another Playboy Ad

05 Apr 2006

Recently there was some buzz about Playboy ads that targeted women where they handed out large towels on the beach and put up pictures of photographers in the shower cabins and toilets, but this one is definitely aimed for the guys. The Dutch ad advertises the .nl website in a rather obvious way:

The Mini Hangmen

05 Apr 2006

I don’t really know if it was meant to be this way, it sure doesn’t look like it, but this billboard gets a totally different dimension with the action that’s going on here. You can find it amusing in one way or the other but I hope the guy hanging there got out of his situation without bruises or broken bones. That is ofcourse if it isn’t a doll or a keened out setup to mislead passers-by.

Mercedes S-Class Boobs

05 Apr 2006

A bit of a classical approach, not really that original. Sex sells, and boobs as an airbag… well… I can’t really say it’s very original. 8 Boobs don’t really make it a better ad, although a lot of men might disagree with me. It’s definitely sure that the S-Class aims for a male audience, if you look at this ad:

Save The Children Guerrilla

05 Apr 2006

Street marketing, guerrilla,… however you want to call this, it caught my attention because of the simplicity. If you know the credits of the agency that came up with this, feel free to drop it in the comments.
