Recycling Printers

04 Jan 2007

This campaign from HP Australia is meant to target everyone who just bought (or is going to buy) a new printer. Even though the company had its fair share of bad publicity and lousy ad campaigns last year, I’m quite fond of the way they communicate the very simple message with humorous images. Even I have broken stuff stacked away on the attic of which I know I’ll never use it again because the drivers aren’t working or it just became too old and lost its compatibility somewhere between Windows 95 and Windows XP. But still you hold on to it because at that time you paid quite some money for it and well, hey, you never know it might come in handy one day (though I know as well as you do that day isn’t going to come). So why not make a small library or an aquarium out of it? What a good idea. They should’ve made a contest out of it, consumer generated of course, in which they invite consumers to upload pictures of the creative things they did whilst trying to find a new meaning for old devices, and then use those images to make this campaign work. If you’re tired of looking at your creations, then you can trade them in again :)

Bic Pens

04 Jan 2007

I find this campaign to be very funny in a time of electronic conversations and digital writing. Indeed, I must say I can’t really remember that well when I’ve actually written something on paper. Not just a password or a phone number, but an actual letter or poem using my best handwriting. Where did the joy of writing go? In the campaign below, Bic – the famous pen – is being promoted with a nice catchy copy that says: “More joy of writing”. With a rather dull topic like that, the creatives who’ve worked on this pitch came up with a very clever approach. The three ads posted here are examples of messages you’d write in a second because something really really urgent came up… and still, the writers have taken the time to use their best handwriting, to even add small graphical touches to the note, just because they just love to write with a Bic. Nice approach. Very fresh and entertaining and a perfect execution.

The Children’s Boat

04 Jan 2007

This is a funny campaign from Stena Lines, one of the world’s largest ferry companies for international ferry traffic. This campaign has been launched to announce their action for parents, saying that the parents will travel free of charge if they’re accompanied by (at least) two children. This is a very keen way to promote your services, and it’ll certainly make this company stand out of the crowd because of its unusual approach. Normally the kids travel for free, while the adults have to pay the full fee. In this case they’ve turned that concept around, and that makes it quite remarkable.

Brussels Airlines

04 Jan 2007

Here’s a nice themed greeting card to wish you a happy New Year from the Brussels Airlines. It’s a funny way to advertize the connections they have to airports in the US, Africa and a bunch of European countries. Although I’m not really overjoyed with the concept, I still think this is a nice way to communicate their travel options. Most certainly it’s not the very best execution around, I agree with that, but it fits pretty well in the context.

Help A Girl Out

03 Jan 2007

…of her clothes with this new campaign from Lynx where you have to hook up your mic or headset and blow in the the microphone to cause massive storm winds which will then eventually lead to a girl that gets really cold and clothesless. The concept has been used a few times already, but I guess one more try won’t hurt. The hidden fact about this interactive game is that you’ll obviously need to have a healthy breath to achieve something on the sexual front. Good breathing is almost the key to anything. It’s a bit of a bummer nothing actually happens, except for the humorous fact that half of the geeky surfers will be blowing their lungs out just to see a funky chica in lingerie. You too can join that crowd. Inhale and click.

It could also very well be that Lynx is coming up with yet another fresh and chilly smell. I signed up for the newsletter to see what comes my way.

2007

02 Jan 2007

Hi there, and welcome in 2007. I hope everyone had a great time and I hope you’re all charged up to begin this new year with the energy of a Duracell rabbit. I’m not going to wish you peace on Earth and a solution for global warming, but keep in mind it never hurts to silently desire to see that happen once. I’m also not into writing super long ‘I hope you’ll blah and blah’ lists, but I do want to say that I really hope you’ll get closer to the things you dream of, the people you love and the places you wanted to go.

Thank you very much for reading this blog and, really, may 2007 be twice as good as 2006 and half as good as 2008.

All the best,

Coolz0r
