Don’t Shoot The Puppy

23 Mar 2006

This must be the most anti-productive time-waster ever. It’s incredibly frustrating, yet it makes a point against all those violent games that are out there. All you have to do is… absolutely nothing. Levels 10, 11 & 12 are just evil ! Argh ! The game ends at level 15, after 9 minutes and 58 seconds of not shooting the damn puppy.

Don't Shoot the puppy

On a sidenote: If you’re a vegetarian out of respect for animals, then why are you eating their food?

UPDATE 4.04 PM: Server down… huge popularity
(pretty symbolic time stamp, isn’t it?)

UPDATE 4.18 PM: I mirrored the game & claim no rights.

UN Pulls Campaign Against Racism

23 Mar 2006

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is marked every year on 21 March with activities led by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, New York and at the field-presences. This year’s theme WAS Fighting Everyday Racism. The campaign has been taken offline, due to critical voices worldwide who were first suggesting Lego is now a politically charged toy and next that the puzzle looked like Denmark. So… all PDF documents I linked to in the previous post have been pulled. You can’t download the campaign anymore. No more images are available on the website.

Against Racism

I didn’t know Denmark looked like this, and does this also mean that every kid in the world who enjoys playing with Lego now becomes a racist?

In fact we have to look at it this way: everybody who enjoys puzzles is a racist. And everybody who plays with Lego is a victim if I interpret the situation correctly. So, if you enjoy puzzling, I hate you. That would make me a racist too. So we’re all racists. Man, this campaign is confusing. (tip about the pull: Luc)

Or as the brand builder blog nicely puts it:

End-result:

  1. Denmark gets slapped in the face (as if the Danes needed any more negative attention).
  2. Lego is stoked to find itself directly associated with racism around the world. (What company woudn’t!)
  3. The UN now has to go through the process of having its giant foot surgically extracted from its own big mouth… But it’s hard to admit having made an error when you can only speak in vowels.
  4. Money well spent rocks my world.

World Water Day Guerrilla (2)

23 Mar 2006

More World Water Day guerrilla, this time for Intermon Oxfam which placed giant straws in the the manholes of Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza with the message: “Would you drink from this water? Thousand of people don’t have any other choice”. Quite a strong statement.

Oxfam WWD 2006

Intermon Oxfam launched a dedicated website with information and video about the waterproblem.

Adidas Consumer Generated Billboards

23 Mar 2006

Here’s something cool I just saw somewhere else :) – The new campaign that adidas launched recently in Germany for adicolor is an absolutely stunning piece of street interaction. I love the concept and whoever came up with this should be promoted. Check out the Adicolor interactive billboards for the Overkill Shop:

Adidas Blank

First, adidas put up a series of mostly white flyerposters – branded with the adidas logo – that subtley encouraged people to tag the billboard and basically fuck it up.

But then, days later, they came back to those same ads and placed another poster over it. The new poster features the adidas adicolor show, now with the original tags from the previous poster incorporated into the show design.

Everybody Loves Mobile Content

23 Mar 2006

… and that’s why there’s so much happening I don’t have time to write separate posts for it. So here’s a list of recent stuff you can do with your mobile phone:

Wikipedia Mobile:

Users of Pocket PCs, Smartphones and Java-enabled mobile phones running web browsers can now access a lightweight version of the Wikipedia on-line encyclopaedia. New Zealand-based company Instinct has created a mobile version of Wikipedia for mobile devices, currently available as a beta website.

Point your phone to this URL : http://www.3g.co.nz/wiki

PayPal Goes Mobile:

Paypal’s new Paypal Mobile service is apparently up and running, and from what PSFK says there’s really not a whole lot to it: you can either text PAYPAL (729725) with the dollar amount and recipients digits (i.e. “send 10 to 2125551212″), or you can do it manually by calling 1-800-4PAYPAL (1-800-472-9725), which is obviously far less exciting.

In-Game Advertising Goes Mobile:

Expect in the near future to see a rising interest for mobile in-game advertising and with new technology such as a new multimedia devices featuring excellent processor performance, display technology or 3G surround sound, in-game advertising can now be displayed to a very high quality.

ZoneTag Geocoded Moblogging:

Yahoo recently rolled out a great new moblogging application called ZoneTag. The application uploads images from your mobile phone to Flickr and automatically tags them with the location, based on the cell tower nearest you.

MSN/Hotmail users can now access their inboxes from their mobile phones. (you probably just have to surf to the hotmail url and log in) (no press release found yet)

Yahoo Goes Skype:

“Using the new Phone In service, subscribers get a personal phone number for receiving incoming calls to their PC from regular phone lines and mobile phones. Those signing up can receive unlimited domestic calls for $2.99 a month or $29.90 a year. With the Yahoo! Phone Out service, subscribers can make PC-to-phone calls within the U.S. and to 30 other countries for two cents a minute. To use the new services you’ll need to download the new client (available at http://messenger.yahoo.com/).”

WWF Street Marketing

22 Mar 2006

Check out these painted trees by Indiana RMG David de Mumbai. Naturally the trees were painted with non-toxic inks and de patterns represent skins of animails that are in high risk of extinguishing. Very well done for WWF.

Girl Puts Skin Up For Rent

22 Mar 2006

On the 4th of April 2006, Eef Dries celebrates her 19th birthday. Eef’s brother is Kris Dries, also known as the man who got the attention of national newspapers and television stations by putting the foreheads of his friends for rent on eBay.

But this time it’s different: Eef (Flemish for ‘Eve’) has decided to turn her body into a walking, talking billboard. In order to finance her birthday party, he (the brother) will put up her skin pores to the highest bidder.

Eef

You can rent a square of pores to cover it with your ad. One square of pores measures five by five centimeters. Each time you bid 25 euros, you’ll get an extra piece of pores.

For example: you bid 500 euros. If you separate this number by 25, you get 20 pieces. The more you rent, the bigger your advertisement (and the more it can be seen by guests).

Where will my advertisement be visible?
Eef decides on which part(s) of the body your ad will be visible – according to availability of this body part, of course. First come, first served!

How much does one piece of pores costs?
One piece of pores costs 25 euros. The more you rent, the bigger your advertisement.

How will I get my advertisement on the body of Eef?
A professional bodypainter will do that for you, at the actual night of the party, in the presence of the her guests.
