PeTA Versus Fur

06 Oct 2006

Back in July I already posted about the ad for PETA where Dallas Cowboys cheerleader/Baywatch babe Bonnie-Jill Laflin posed to buck the rodeo. Last night while checking my mail, I came across an e-mail from Ben that had a dozen of PeTA ads in it, with the one from Jill Laflin included. Although I’m not quite sure they’ve all been launched at the same time, I thought I’d line them up here so you could get an overview. The messages in the ads go from “go vegetarian” to “don’t wear fur” with a lot of variations on the theme, so most likely these campaigns were spread over time.

If you read the Bible, you might now “the lord’s” stance on animals. We’re meant to be their shepherds and treat them kindly.

Biologically, if you compare human canines to carnivores’, ours are noticeably less prominent, and we actually have a digestive system designed for plant consumption that is similar to an herbivores in that it has a long intestinal tract, quite unlike that of carnivores which is short and is able to process the total bulk of the meat. Our system, which can’t process meat in totality, leaves behind unprocessed elements which make us sick and contribute to colon cancer, amongst others. Furthermore, carnivores have claws and teeth designed for killing, not only do we lack the claws, but our canines are secondary to our molars, not primary, like that of true carnivores.

If you actually read something, you would see that originally, man had a plant-based diet and we were scavengers, meaning eating meat occasionally. Not only is the moral argument prominent here, but we’re simply not designed to process meat. Good luck with your colon caner, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc… :)

Ive been a vegaterian since I was 8. Same with my mother. When she was around 8, her father shot a chicken, and made her pluck all the feathers off! That made her decide to go vegg. I personally think eating meat is wrong. And eating eggs are disgusting. Just thinking of eating an unfertalized chicken is gross. I would never want to eat something that could have once lived.

GOD!!!give it a rest would you!! Look, im not a veggie, in fact i LOVE meat, it tastes like heaven itself. Tough I agree that exotic animals shouldn’t be held captive, but neither chicken or cows are in danger of extinction, if, and only if they where in danger i would stop eating them, and joined you. Animals eat every day something that once lived so WHY CAN’T WE???
Why are you worried about it, you shouldn’t live perfectly, no one is making you, so take risks. You only get to live once. You’re all going to walk through your lives without eating even just a slice of pepperoni. And though all I just said, I never weared fur in my life OK. So just don’t go on saying everyone who eats meat is a heartless idiot who eats corpses, because I care for animals too but if they’re not in extinction I EAT THEY’RE CORPSES, DEAL WITH IT!!

look if u wanna be a vegan or a veggie thats great but dont tell me i can’t eat meat. i eat cows and chickens they are NOT going to be extinct any times soon so i dont care. no does tha mean im going to eat dolphin no. also i dont mind wearing leather if the cow i had for dinner is already dead might as well take after the native americans and use every part of the animal. now because i wear leather OCCASIONALY does that mean i’m gonna wear rabbit fur NO it means I’m wearing the skin of somthing i already ate. So go be a vegan or veggie if you want just dont tell me i cant eat meat.

Vegetables can’t feel pain, they don’t have feelings.
Also no one is arguing that cows and chickens are extinct. The arguement is that they can feel love. They can feel fear. Most importently they can feel pain. We have no right to take there lives just because we as humans are bigger, smarter (in some cases), and can hold a gun or a blade. The fact is WE DON’T NEED MEAT TO SURVIVE. There is more protein in fake chicken and burger patties then most real ones.
Don’t waste millions in ads?! Try not wasting tons of money and grain raising cattle to slaughter.

First of all…”DIS SORTA THING!!!!” kills any arguement a person has and only shows that they’re not mature or intelligent enough to put up a real fight. Eating meat is a personal decision and I think that if a person chooses not to for whatever reason, they shouldn’t have to deal with irrational pricks screaming in their ear. If you don’t agree, simply say so…maybe add a couple ‘big words’ in there too, just to impress us all.

Secondly, if you’re diggin’ on these pictures just for the nudity…you’re a pervert. There are porn sites made JUST for YOU, please stick to those.

Now as for my opinion on the pictures themselves. LOVE EM! I’ve recently become a vegitarian. I’m sick of hearing of all the disgusting things animals go through just so big corp’s can make a fast buck. Thanks PETA! :D

The lord didn’t put animals on this earth for humans to eat. In the story of creation it said that the world animals and plants were made first and then God wanted someone to take care of the animals and all his creations to he made humans. The animals are treated badly and TORTURED in factory farms and slaughter houses. I’m not trying to ‘convert’ anyone, it just seems you din’t have you’re facts straight.

Everybody get over yourselves. For all those bible-toting zealots out there, the word of god (that’s right, small ‘g’) was first transcribed in the 15th century. The Decalogue aside, which is a common-sense moral code, the Bible is utter nonsense. Rubbish. Believe it if you want, but surprisingly, most of us don’t want to hear about it. There are far more relevant and pressing issues than made-up stuff from 500 years ago. Maybe I’ll go to hell. Oh wait a minute, hell was cooked up by god-botherers, which means it doesn’t and has never existed.
Similarly, vegetarians can believe what they like, but people don’t appreciate it being stuffed down their throats. No-one cares whether you’ve decided to quit eating meat. Do you want a medal? Do you feel superior to the guy on the street who chooses to eat meat?
There are so many pitfalls to being a vegetarian, one being that it is nigh on impossible not to be hypocritical. I’d better not see any vegs wearing leather shoes…..

wow. not enough iron and minerals? k-9 teeth? Dumb asses. i do understand about SOME veg’s who project their feeling of superiority onto those who dont share the same diet/belief or even vegans onto vegetarians b/c they eat dairy. same with christians. that shit sucks. one could argue that SOMEBODY’S gotta get the info out there! and im glad they did for my sake(meet your meat did it for me). but i found it on my own. if someone asks me why, and what it entails to be vegan, i tell them but thats pretty much it b/c i do believe its something you come to when/if you find it or when you’re ready. and i understand how veg’s are angry and saddened by what’s going on and just want it to stop, and non-veg’s are annoyed b/c they don’t want to change something so big. well…good work peta! good luck!

Heh. I would love to be a vegie, The moment that meat replacement products are the lowest prized food suply.

    Fur? Meh.

Anyway.. This might get people of the fur.. But these “pictures” won’t make anyone a vegie.

To make one a vegie.. You have to think about three things.

Income: Most meat replace products are prized or hard to get.

Taste. You got to like the replacement. Or you are to addicted to the taste of meat.

commitment. Do i need to explain it?

    Things that actually will help:

Stop with the sexy girls and show food.
Make vegie food look better then meat.

Lower the cost. That is rather hard but..

anyway. make vegie food jump out!

All I can say is it’s PETA how can any do what those hipacrits say. Ok so people want proof ok check out the truth about peta’s no kill animal shelters they were put to a percentage test from people and some of them who worked there only about 15% of thier animals are put to sleep and if a pitbull or any dog slightly looking like one are put to sleep and never given a chance to be adopted. I for one happen to be a pit owner and they are the most loyal and loving dog i have ever had the pleasure of being around. and to further prove my point i actually went into a peta shelter once right as a guy had just brought his old pit in cuz he couldnt take care of it “an example of someone who dosent need a dog” anyway i told them i would take and they said no it was a pit they cant it needs to be fixed and the guy said it has been fixed and they said well we still cant its a pit it must be put down they are dangerous and this poor dog was just sitting there whineing because his owner was leaveing him there i even offerd them 100 bucks to look the other way so i could take and insted those F***ing a-holes took it back and put it down. so tell me do you still think peta is all that. now let me tell you the reason all of peta has a stance against them because of one woman being terrified of them so one scared women convinces thousands of people to kill those poor dogs and say they cant be made anymore all i can say is all of those people i hope they lose the ability to have kids lets see how they like it.

I am a firm believer in vegetable rights!! You prove to me that the tomato doesnt feel it when you pick it off the vine or that apple doesnt feel it when you slice it up to eat it…and all you with this crap about the lord…well hold on tight because if you actually read the books it says that after the flood….noah and the rest of mankind were permitted to eat the animals because noah saved them from the flood…fur is stupid and so is ivory…but if you wreck your motorcycle on the highway you had better be wearing leather because any kind of cloth will disintegrate and your skin is next

Oh wait no that would be silly now wouldn’t it. Animals are tasty I love eating them I will eat them everyday — I’ve killed animals and then ate them. Personally I was not repulsed by the death necessary to keep me alive. I was enthralled by the cycle of life, not to mention home killed meat mmmmm-mmmm tasty.

I keep reading comments about The Bible saying we are not meant to eat animals…. All I can say is, why don’t you read ALL of the Bible, and get the full story!!! Man was placed on the earth to look after the animals including eating some of them!!!!! In the same way, he was placed on earth to look after the plants and eat some of them. Anyone can take an extract out of a book to bulk up their case, but you really need to put things back in context to get the real picture. Some animals are here to be companions and some are here to supply us with food or clothing.
As for PETA, they are well intentioned but don’t understand all the facts when attacking some of their issues.

everyone on here says that god put animals on this earth to eat. well the fact is god does not exist so don’t use that as an excuss. i myself eat meat, but not any caged animals, because i feel that is wrong. i say do what you want, but the one thing that cannot be justified is wearing clothes out of animal skins, unless you need it to survive, which i’m sure not many people do.

  30. Robert

    September 21, 2007 at 9:08 pm

You all are right. We don’t need meat to survive.

Nor do we need cars. But I’m sure many of you drive cars.

Cars you understand run on gasoline. Made from oil. Which occasionally gets spilled and kills animals.

Cars you understand cause pollution. Which breaks down ecosystems. Which in turn kills animals.

Cars you understand which you park in your driveway, at your house. Which likely has wood in it somewhere. Wood you understand comes from forests. Which when cut down, kills animals and desroys habitats.

Listen, if you want to CHOOSE to be vegetarians, fine. That’s your choice. But trying to persuade me to be a vegetarian with these arguments only shows that PETA and their followers are hypocrites.

MEAT causes irreparable damage to the brain. This research has been supressed to ensure the meat industry does not collapse. All non-vegetarians are requesed to find about it. No need for the discussion after that.

  32. Anonymous

    October 11, 2007 at 2:22 pm

All I really have to say is that i’m getting really sick of vegetarians and meat-eaters alike trying to cram each others beliefs down one anothers’ throats. I’m a vegetarian, and personally, I don’t understand how someone can support an industry that is ruining the environment and causing horrendous mistreatment of animals before they’re slaughtered. Frankly, if you’re the kind of person who can watch the slaughterhouse footage and still honestly say you don’t care, then that’s your problem. Karma’s a bitch, and you’ll learn that the hard way. I don’t respect your decision, but I respect your right to make it.

So essentially what i’m saying is, nobody should resort to yelling and screaming and claims of moral superiority. I don’t think vegetarians should scold people for eating meat, but by the same token, I don’t want a meat-eater giving me a dirty look or barraging me with the usual harassment when they find out i’m a vegetarian either. Don’t be a f*cking hypocrite.

And one final note. People are apt to take you more seriously if you can actually muster up the ability to spell and use grammar properly. You speak the damn language, learn to write it.

I think it’s cool as hell to wear a leather jacket. I think a steak is awesome. I agree though that it’s not good to eat nothing but meat all the time but it has been proven that humans are capable of sustaining life by eating meat. You do not die because you ate some meat. The world’s oldest man was 125 I believe. I’ll bet he ate meat at one time or another but it didn’t kill him — being 125 did. Suck on that one a while.

  36. RoyM

    October 31, 2007 at 12:00 am

Do what you want with your own life; but if you’re ignorant about something then please don’t attempt to spread your views or expect people to listen to you.

I promise you well over 50% that are part of PETA members / groups have never had to live in countries like Russia or very cold northern type countries / territories.

Look up pictures of Pamela Anderson (spokesperson for PETA), how many pictures are of her in cold rainy places? I see a lot of beach pictures!

Anyways back to cold countries, it snows and rains a lot and it’s very very cold many months of the year. People go to work everyday… everyday and many of them outside! Work doesn’t stop because it’s cold and wet out. I’ve seen construction workers in Belarus working outside past 5:00PM in December during one of the coldest days during a snow storm… you want them to be naked??? If people actually saw how well fur worked as a snow / rain resistant coat they would probably stop complaining so often because Mother Nature knows her stuff! Snow and rain does not penetrate the fur, it just rolls off… dry and warm and the easily the most cost effective outfit you can buy! Probably the best reason is that fur can easily last a lifetime! No man made material lasts a lifetime or if it there is then it’s easily way more expensive than a fur coat.

The only way I would say you’re right about not wearing fur is if it was an exotic (almost extinct) animal. Where as seals are abundant so what’s the problem if the entire carcass is being used? Whether you believe in god or not shouldn’t make a difference if we are “allowed” to eat meat.

Should we just let cows and chickens go? Roam free to procreate… yeah that would be a great idea I’m sure it would work out. We could have cow and chicken reserves around the world where they can procreate and be eaten by natural their predators…. Oh wait they are domesticated… and have been for hundreds of years! Although introducing a new food source for cougars and wolves would be a healthy thing… but wait those are carnivores… I’m sooo confused…

Trust me when I say this, chickens are the stupidest creatures on this planet, arguably stupider than human beings! They kill each other for petty reasons and here’s an example! When a hen doesn’t want a rooster to have ‘nookie’ with it that hen is basically ‘forced’ to by the rooster. The rooster will then from that point forward pay ‘special’ attention to that hen in a dominant manner; the other hens get jealous or something (seriously) and they literally kill that hen after a few days of torturous attacks!

If anything pity them for being so malicious and dumb if nothing else. I raised free range chickens for awhile, which means they were kept in a HUGE area with grass and lots of space to move around and do whatever they want. Less than 20 of them together, they weren’t repressed or stressed out! Why keep the rooster in the pen? (I just know someone is saying that in their heads like I’m an idiot!). A rooster is kept with hens to promote their egg production, it’s a well known fact hens are more productive at laying eggs with a ‘healthy’ rooster present. I sat by pen to prevent this mauling many times and even removed the rooster for a period but the hens still attacked the other one.

Don’t try to convert people if you’re ignorant of all the facts.

Oh and near the top someone mentioned that humans digestive system are setup strictly for vegetarian diet stating our long intestinal track is proof of that where carnivores have short…. well correct me if I’m wrong but don’t we have a small and large intestine which is combined? That can arguably mean that we have ‘evolved’ or were ‘created’ (whatever your belief system) for both, even our carnivores teeth are slight proof of some form of evolution for eating meat.

I used to think the most annoying thing in the world was an ignorant person, but over time I have come to realize we are all ignorant about something and that it’s ok. Now I realize the most annoying thing is a person that CHOOSES to remain ignorant about subjects that concern them. I don’t know about you but one of the most important things I learned in high school was the best way for a person to prove their ‘theories or beliefs’ was to do everything they can to disprove them first. If you can’t disprove it then you probably have a winner!

Everything a person does every day of their lives is a choice, be it right or wrong, wether i agree or disagree, i support each and every persons right to choose how they want to live. I make the choices that are right for me and my conscience is clear.
    but i was just thinking….

If everyone in the world just all of a sudden
“got it” and they all decided unanimously to stop eating meat tomarrow, what would happen to all the farmers who raise those animals? What would that do to the economy? And most importantly… realistically what really would happen to all of those animals then? Would cattle die out? Where do wild cattle live? We couldn’t set them free, that would wreak havoc on the enviroment and the natural wildlife anywhere… Would cow’s then possibly be in danger of extinction?
The more i think about it, the more questions it raises. Weird… I wonder if anyone has ever thought it out this far before? If someone would like to offer some answers i would love to hear them.

Gosh, I don’t want to wear fur if the poor liitle animal has to suffer. But what about the cotton plants? They might hurt when they get picked. I mean, what if they have feelings too? So meat is out, cotton is out. And the fish. I don’t want them to have to have a hook jammed through their lips either and then beat on the head to kill them. Vegetables are living things, I don’t want to eat them if they cry out when they get picked and boiled to death.
Fuck it. I am going to go get naked and starve myself to death.

Why do you come here to look at the campaign if all you are going to do is insult it? If you dont allow people to express their beliefs it creates war. For all the American retards that cant go a day without insulted someone for being foreign or having a differant belief from then. Maybe you should take a hard long look at your country that single handedly are fucking up the world. Congratz on denieing global warming when we are currently experiencing the hottest Winters yet. It seems whenever someone trys to help a cuase that stops you doing as you please you insult it and claim its retarded.

Any enough insulting retards I think your doing a great job in expressing your beliefs about meat. Although what you have to think about is if we didnt eat meat then farmers could only make money on Milk and wool. meaning there would be no need for Pigs or the amount of cows and other animals we currently keep. Meaning in order for the farmer to make profit they would kill them. So maybe it is worth eating meat…

To the PETA Lover written above, animals are NOT skinned alive. I’ve raised steer, and have watched them butchered. They make it as humane as possible. To the people that say that the human intestinal tract is made ONLY for vegetables, you are wrong. We are Omnivores. That means we are made to eat BOTH meat and veggies. It is bad for our intestines to eat ONLY veggies, or ONLY meat. I love animals, but it is a different kind of love. It’s a love between a hunter and the hunted, a certain respect, that most do not know of. Please, get your facts strait. As for the guy talking about chickens up above, he is right, I’ve raised them open range myself. They are NOT smart, and attack eachother CONSTANTLY. Oh yes, to the Ignorant person above, Jimi, please refrain from using the term “Retard” to insult people. I know some grand Mentally Ill people, and they are a blast to be around. Vegans and Veggie-only have the right to be so. So don’t go stuffing it down their throats either. They have their right to their own opinions. But please, if you are going to counter meat-eaters, or vice-verci, get your facts right. Ive heard people say “Ignorance is Bliss” with a proud air, but frankly, I find ignorant people to be rather In-effective arguers. So please, if you want to argue, do it in a respectable manner, with your facts in order.

The oh-so-large brain (hopefully) that all of you melodramatic veggie-humans are using to type on the computers, invented by another big-brained human, could have only stemmed from the nutrients provided by meat. It is when primates began eating meat that humans took a giant leap in evolution over your average “leaf eater” primate. Look THAT up. If you are against evolution, natural selection, then take it up with nature/God or whatever rule you adhere to. As for the argument of wearing fir, save for endangered species, if the cows are being slaughtered for meat, why not utilize the pelt? Leather is very durable and long lasting, not to mention aesthetically pleasing. Cows have feelings? Next you’ll tell me they have morals. Religious affiliations? This all seems so ludicrous I can’t even contemplate how you people come up with your arguments. Meat is beneficial to us as human beings. Would you continue to be a vegetarian if you were told you were stunting evolution, and that your ancestors would be less evolved within 200 years? (that’s hypothetical as opposed to the aforementioned proven theory)

Well, I don’t know much about PETA but I don’t have a cold blooded heart to kill the animals for food. They have feelings exactly the same as human beings do. So that’s why I am a vegetarian and also an animal lovers. I support PETA.

Its ironic that Peta uses a photo of polar bears in its Global Warning petition, since the most rigorous scientific studies show that polar bears populations are not only doing fine, but actually increasing in size. Indeed, its likely that a few degrees of warmer temps will actually help polar bears and have many other positive benefits as well. Throughout history, periods of warmth fostered more growth and well being for many ecosystems as well as humans the world over than cool periods or ice ages, and there have been many cycles of each. For a more balanced view on climate change rather than the scientifically poor, politically driven Peta views, see:

I have no problem with vegetarians, and am all for avoiding unnecessary pain in animals. But unless animals raised or hunted for food are tortured or abused, eating them is not evil or more unpleasant than what takes place all the time in the wile. If we didn’t eat them, something else would, or they’d die by other causes–often more slow and painful ones. Unless animals become immortal, there is no getting around that. As far as those who claim that there was no death before the Fall and that all creatures were originally meat to eat meat, this is unsound both scientifically and Biblically. See:

Hey Ally, for someone who pretends to know so much about Biology you seem to have forgotten that it is PLANT material that the human body cannot digest. Cellulose cannot be metabolized in the human small intestine and the E Coli in our large intestines only takes care of a small percentage of it by fermentation. It’s the impaction of the fibrous material that leads to ailments of the digestive tract, not the protein and saturated fats found in meats which are readily 100% metabolized (barring any enzymatic deficiency) in a matter of hours. Yes the fat content of some meats promotes cardiovascular disease but eating in moderation and exercise is enough to keep the billions of meat eaters across the globe alive. Fat is only a problem in america because of the portion sizes, not the nature of the substance itself.

Also, the vast majority of all the substances in your body that allowed to you write that poignantly ridiculous article were the result of protein synthesis – the body’s way of making the tools it needs to do EVERYTHING IT DOES. Ever hear of an essential amino acid? It’s something you must obtain from your diet, because you need it for protein synthesis. Strictly vegetarian diets do not provide adequate amounts of Lysine or Tryptophan, and don’t give me any crap about supplements because your whole argument was about the natural way of things – and there’s nothing natural about fortifying a food with a nutrient it doesn’t have or producing it in pill form just to please the supporters of this ridiculous movement. If you want to mess with protein synthesis, you will soon BE exactly what you’re advocating that we eat – a vegetable. Enough irony for all of us.
