Man, this is quite awesome. I don’t know where it is or who made it, but I bet you could easily sell this to the guys at Volkswagen…

Summer Is Coming

28 Apr 2006

With a title like this you’d expect a post full of beach babes and bikini love, but alas that’s not what you’ll get. “Summer’s Coming” is a semi interactive Flash campaign from Heineken to promote their longneck bottle, the coolcan, their sixpack of bottles with screwable crown cap and the famous tapvat, a portable keg. I call it semi-interactive because all you have to do is place the red marker somewhere to drop the product that appeared in an ‘independence day-alike’ fashion. I tried to kill some people but they all fled in time. The setup is always the same in the four clips: product appears and people scream and run away; you place marker; product descends while people scream and make way for product; product hits earth, people return, music sounds, party starts. It’s a simple concept, but after the first animation you know what to expect and then you go on a mandatory ‘checking out the others’ tour. It’s not ground-breaking. It’s nice to look at, for a moment.

Heineken, Summer is coming.

The clips are from the Dutch site, the language used is also Dutch, but you don’t really need words. Skip the intro and you’ll arrive at a page where the first of four Flash clips will start to play. The navigation is obvious. The other clips are on the right. Have fun.

Del.icio.us Launched Your Network

28 Apr 2006

“Your network” connects you to other del.icio.us users – friends, family, even new people you run across while exploring del.icio.us.
You can manage your network and keep track of their latest favorites by clicking the “your network” link at the top of the page, or by visiting del.icio.us/network.

When you save new bookmarks, you can share them with people in your network simply by clicking on a username. That user (or users) will then receive the sent bookmark and be able to view it by clicking on “links for you” at the top of the page.

Good to know. So now I don’t have to use ‘for:username’ anymore if I tag my posts for Randy or anyone else?

Hanging Cars

27 Apr 2006

One way to grab attention is to create the exact opposite of what people know and expect. A car normally drives on the road, it’s parked with its four wheels touching the earth surface. Well, it’s just because you’ve always known things to have been like this that seeing those objects in a totally different position really grabs your eyeballs and demands a second, third or even fourth look. Here are some examples of those moments that create 100% awareness. I’ve lined up five cases after the jump. Due to heavy images (the total loading time of the five cases) it might not be so good to put it all on the index at once…

I lined up the cases of the Ford Escape 2.3, Mercedes M-Class, Jeep and Sixt Rent-a-Car and the Mini Track

The Cookie Generator

27 Apr 2006

If you ever dreamt of having those letter cookies in a digital form, here’s your chance. Someone created a simple generator that transforms your name into a cookiefied image. Seems very cool, but I couldn’t spell Coolz0r because it didn’t accept the ‘Z’.

Your Cookie Name

The only valid characters are : a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p r s t u v x y Ã¥ ä ö ø Å“, which would make you think that it’s Swedish or something because the ‘W’ and the ‘Z’ aren’t in the alphabet and instead some odd characters for viking names have been added. It also doesn’t accept numbers, but other than that, it’s funny.

Breast Cancer DIY Research

27 Apr 2006

Breast cancer is a serious disease that unfortunately still makes a lot of casualties. However, decent research and a regular check-up can often prevent the worst thing to happen. Rethink came up with in interactive tutorial to help and inform girls and women about what to look for and where to feel.

Rethink Breast Cancer is a charity helping young people who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer through innovative breast cancer education, research and support programs. Rethink is a national volunteer-driven registered charity with a bold, enterprising and entrepreneurial approach. We are thinking differently about how to beat breast cancer.

The website “checkoutmybreasts.com“, an initiative for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer to promote the launch day on May 5th and the actual campaign day on May 26th. They also want to teach how girls/women can self-examine their breast so that they can act in time when they feel something’s wrong.

On May 26th, 2006 thousands of men and women across Canada will wear a Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) T-shirt or lapel pin to work, to engage in the fight against breast cancer. The FTBC tee is the must have item for spring – wear it and make a real fashion statement while showing your support for the fight against breast cancer.

A 16Gig USB Credit Card

27 Apr 2006

Cool gadget from PQI, about the size of a normal credit card but with a whopping storage 16 Gb. This small toy is USB 2.O/1.1 compatible and fits for Mac & PC. It’s 3mm thin, and measures 85×54mm. It doesn’t need external power and stores any type of date you want it to store. How very nifty!

U 510

Grammatically I’d have switched ‘just’ and ‘not’, but umm… it’s not about the words.

PlayStation Ads

27 Apr 2006

I’ve been very intrigued by the Sony ad ‘Double Life’ from Frank Budgen ever since I saw it on TV somewhere in the last century, already a long time ago. There’s something magical about this commercial, something true in which I could find myself at the time. It’s incredible how this one ad can leave such an impression and cause such a stir on the internet. So I went to look for the clip and the text in it and I found some cool archives of overviews and reviews. One image of the clip really stuck by me:

I've conquered worlds...

Analogik has a long and detailed review of the clip with a lot of screenshots, so check that out if you want to see more.

“Lyrics”:

For years, I’ve lived a double life.

In the day, I do my job – I ride the bus, roll up my sleeves with the hoi-polloi.

But at night, I live a life of exhilaration, of missed heartbeats and adrenalin.

And, if the truth be known, a life of dubious virtue.

I won’t deny it – I’ve been engaged in violence, even indulged in it.

I’ve maimed and killed adversaries, and not merely in self-defence.

I’ve exhibited disregard for life, limb and property,
and savoured every moment.

You may not think it, to look of me,
but I have commanded armies, and conquered worlds.

And though in achieving these things I’ve set morality aside,
I have no regrets.

For though I’ve led a double life, at least I can say – I’ve lived.

Incredibly Powerful.
